in-class paraphrase activity

PASSAGE 

"I'm going to the job," Zeitoun said. He was still running; in hindsight he should have stopped at this point, but he was in a rhythm and he continued, with the truck puttering beside him." (27)

PARAPHRASE

As Zeitoun was running to his job, he answered to Charlie, who rides up beside him.

When Charlie found Zeitoun running with a bike on his back, Zeitoun simply told him he was running to work.

Rule of writing: be to the point, without leaving behind key details
what you present to your reader depends on what they need to know

PASSAGE

Zeitoun dismissed it. "This is not the storm for us," he said. (22)

PARAPHRASE

Zeitoun wasn't really concerned that the hurricane would affect his family. 

Zeitoun was not worried about the storm for his family.
